Borrowed and Blue is one of our favorite wedding blogs that is designed to inspire and guide brides and grooms from across the US in 66 specific markets. Every year they come out with the only exclusively vendor-voted wedding industry awards. It's so unique (and fun!) that B&B allows the vendors themselves to hand-pick their very favorite companies to work alongside. We believe that your vendor team needs to be comprised of people who are not only talented and fit nicely into your budget, but that they are also a joy to work with! For example, it's difficult to get a sense of a photographers communication style if you are only viewing images in their online gallery, but it's absolutely essential to have the person capturing all your precious moments be someone who you feel comfortable interacting with - not to mention smooching and crying in front of.

Private Estate Tour | The Gold Coast Estate

Our private estate tour continues today with a property that invokes visions of tropical isles, Caribbean beaches, and warm sun. The Gold Coast Estate is nestled down in the quiet and tranquil cove of Rubicon Bay. The golden sandy beaches and tropical water meet pine trees and meadow making it the perfect place to have a wedding isolated from the rest of the world.

With toes tucked in the sand for the ceremony and dinner amongst a canopy of pine trees, this venue really showcases everything that is so wonderful in Tahoe.... all wrapped up in one luxuriously private lakefront venue.

Private Estate Tour | Sandy Shores Cove

A few days ago we teased you with a little sneak peak into a few of our gorgeous private estates. Today, we are starting our tour by introducing you to one of our favorites, The Sandy Shores Cove Estate! Nestled atop a bluff and protected by the wind, Sandy Shores Cove boasts a gorgeous lawn, a lodge-style home, and access to a private sandy beach. Tall old growth pine trees surround the perimeter of the property, creating the perfect overhead canopy for an open air or clear tent reception. The long stretch of lawn creates plenty of space for spreading out the ceremony, cocktails, dinner,and dancing. Plus, no matter where you are on the property, you have a panoramic view of Lake Tahoe!   

  

  

  

  

This property really captures the essence of what Lake Tahoe has to offer - beauty, comfort, and a secluded space for you to enjoy a night of celebrating your wedding!

Private Estate Tour | An Introduction to our Collection of Private Estates

Wow that was one amazing wedding season!! As we reminisce all the events we had the pleasure of planning and designing this past Summer, we wanted to introduce you to our gorgeous collection of private estates. One of the greatest parts of a private estate wedding or event is the completely unique environment it creates for both the couple and the guests. No stuffy ballroom or standard cookie cutter details, instead a private estate provides a completely unexpected atmosphere. The guests have no idea what to expect before they arrive so you have an instant moment of drama as they walk through the gates and arrive at your gorgeous celebration. Plus, the backdrop of the estate combined with the mountains and the lake is breathtaking! While each property has it's own shape of a lawn, collection of trees and plants, or sometimes even a little slope, we have worked with every tree stump, every odd shape, and every obstacle to ensure an alluring and very comfortable space for both your down to earth friends as well as your more sophisticated guests that may be expecting the comforts and amenities of a ballroom environment. No matter what the weather forecast or the terrain, we always consider every ounce of comfort and need the guests may crave. In addition, we create custom scaled floor plans of the event space. This becomes quite a huge benefit to our clients as they need to know how much space each element (the tent, the tables, the dance floor, etc) will require and how much space the property provides for everything they want to have at their celebration. So without further ado, here is a sneak peak of our properties we will be introducing you to over the next couple weeks!!

The Idea Board | Ultimate Gingerbread Cookie Recipe

With the holidays racing towards us at record speed (is it really already December 20th?!), I thought I would share my go-to holiday party offering - the ultimate gingerbread cookie recipe! Nothing says the holidays like a little spice - read below for this awesome and spicy cookie from Ina Garten.

Ingredients:

• 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• 2 tsps. ground cinnamon
• 1 1/2 tsps. ground nutmeg
• 1/2 teaspoon ground ginder
• 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
• 1 c. dark brown sugar
• 1/4 c. vegetable oil
• 1/3 c. molasses
• 1 extra-large egg, room temperature
• 1 1/2 cups chopped crystallized ginger
• granulated sugar, for rolling the cookies

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 sheet pans with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and salt and then combine the mixture with your hands. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the brown sugar, oil, and molasses on medium speed for 5 minutes. Turn the mixer to low speed, add the egg, and beat for 1 minute. Scrape the bowl with a rubber spatula and beat for 1 more minute. With the mixer still on low, slowly add the dry ingredients to the bowl and mix on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add the crystallized ginger and mix until combined.

Scoop the dough with 2 spoons or a small ice cream scoop. With your hands, roll each cookie into a 1 3/4-inch ball and then flatten them lightly with your fingers. Press both sides of each cookie in granulated sugar and place them on the sheet pans. Bake for exactly 13 minutes. The cookies will be crackled on the top and soft inside. Let the cookies cool on the sheets for 1 to 2 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Enjoy!!

Tahoe Wedding Advice | Bachelorette Party Tips

Now that your best friend, sister, college roommate is engaged - it's time to start thinking about the bachelorette party!!! There are so many ideas but we have a few tips to get you started on the right track. 1. Pick the group that she feels comfortable "letting loose" around | Get the invite list from the bride and let her decide who she would like to have join - if she hasn't spoken to someone in a while or doesn't feel comfortable in Vegas with work colleagues, they don't need to get an invite.

3.) Remember this is her night or weekend | Focus on what will make her have fun and enjoy a relaxing evening, not what everyone else wants to do.If sipping wine by a roaring fire while glamping, or partying all night in Vegas are things that will make your bride-to-be happy, then that is what your plan should entail.

2.) Create a Budget | Once you have the guest list created, ask everyone what they are comfortable spending. If it's relatively small, keep this in mind and maybe plan a one-night, local adventure. If everyone has a little more wiggle room, maybe consider turning this into a weekend relaxation trip or quick flight to somewhere fun.

4.) Elect one person for Planning  | It's so easy for everyone to brainstorm and come up with a million locations, ideas, themes, etc. Let one person coordinate all of the details and then as a group finalize everything. That way no one is doing double work and everything will be more seamless.

5.) Take care of Transportation | Do everyone a favor and rent either a limo, town car, or party bus. No one wants to be the "sober" one for this fun night out, so everyone should build in their budget an allotment for responsible transportation.

Lake Tahoe Wedding Inspiration | Pops of Pink

Now I must admit...I'm not a "pink" girl. I don't own anything pink and it's never the color that I would choose for any wall or home decor. But when I came across this gorgeous image I just fell in love! There is something about a pop of bright pink that draws in the eye and makes me happy. I love this unfrosted version of cake as well - it creates a rustic yet refined touch. And I love the giant bouquet on top - perfection!

The Idea Board | Cinnamon Toast Hot Toddy

Leaves are turning, the air is becoming chillier, and we've had the first flurries of snow - Fall is officially here! As the weather shifts to all things Autumn, I always turn to a cozy beverage to snuggle up with - Cinnamon Toast Hot Toddy. This would be the perfect accompaniment for a night on the couch, or by the fire, with a snuggly sweater.

Recipe:

• 1 1/4 ounce(s) Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
• 6 ounce(s) hot apple cider
• 1 tablespoon(s) sugar
• 1 tablespoon(s) cinnamon

Add hot apple cider and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum to a glass rimmed with sugar and cinnamon. Sip slowly and enjoy!

Lake Tahoe Wedding Photography | Bret Cole Workshop Wrap-Up

Last month I participated in the first Bret Cole Photography Fellowship and I am SOOO very excited to reveal a few of the behind the scenes photos from the workshop! The purpose of the workshop was to provide both amateur and professional photographer’s with a weekend of inspiration and education to further their careers in the wedding industry. The event included four beautifully styled photo shoots and class time with lectures by myself, event designer Scott Corridan, Don Weinstein of Photo Impact Imaging film lab, Bret Cole of Bret Cole Photography, and Alexandra Tremaine of Tremaine Photography. Home base for the workshop was at the lovely Cedar Glen Lodge in Tahoe Vista and the photo shoot locations stretched from the top of Eagle Rock on the West Shore to a ranch out past Sierraville. Our favorite is the Sierraville wedding shoot which we helped design, of course! Such a gorgeous and amazing place – the shoot took place near an amazing old barn surrounded by fields, cows, horses, and nature…what more could you want? Take a peek below to see some of the behind the scenes photos of the engagement shoot, lectures, kids portrait shoot, and wedding shoot.

From Bret Cole ~ I came out of the experience with an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion and euphoria. The team effort and support I received brought tears to my eyes. The interest in film was widely apparent from the attendees….much more than I expected. And it was so wonderful to see them learn more about the wedding and portrait industry. They were like little sponges! It’s an awesome feeling to know I was able to help them and make a difference just by sharing my passion!!

Submissions | Please email your most creative and gorgeous wedding photos to info@tahoeunveiled.com with the subject “Lake Tahoe Wedding Photos”. Please label your photos with a keyword and a number so your photos are kept anonymous from the judges.

Image Sizes | Please send up to 5 .jpg images that are 600 pixels on their longest side, without watermarks. Images can be placed in a .zip file that is no larger than 10MB.

Processing | 5 photos per photographer may be submitted for free, or a processing fee of $5 per photograph will be charged for submissions of 6 – 15 images. Please let us know if you would like to submit more than 5 images and we will send you a google checkout.

Eligibility | Open to everyone, 18 years of age or older at date of entry. Photographs should be from a real wedding that took place in Lake Tahoe who are your clients. (No engagement photos, photos of models, or images from styled shoots, workshops or commercial shoots, please. If you have questions about eligibility, please read our Official Rules or write to info@tahoeunveiled.com for more clarification).

Deadline | Photos will be accepted from 12:01 am Pacific Time, Monday, May 20th, 2013, until 11:59 pm Pacific Time on Monday, June 17th, 2013.

Prize / Exposure | If your photo/s are chosen you will receive a winner’s badge to display on your website or blog, your copyright—including your name and business name—will be prominently displayed as part of our Best of Lake Tahoe Photo Collection on Tahoe Unveiled’s website and blog, with a link to the photographers website or blog. Your photos will be part of our marketing campaign to promote Lake Tahoe as a world class wedding destination.

Notification | Winners will be determined by Friday, June 21st and notified by Monday, June 24th. Winners will be notified through the email address provided in their submission form and will be asked to approve the caption to be shown in our Best of Lake Tahoe Weddings Photo Collection.
